Autism for Adults

Autism

Autistic people may act in a different way to other people.

Autistic people may:

  • find it hard to communicate and interact with other people
  • find it hard to understand how other people think or feel
  • find things like bright lights or loud noises overwhelming, stressful or uncomfortable
  • get anxious or upset about unfamiliar situations and social events
  • take longer to understand information
  • do or think the same things over and over

Referral for Assessment

If you are over 18, think you may have autism and would like a referral for an assessment, you will need to follow the instructions on the Psychiatry UK website:

Right to Choose ASD

Once we have received the required documents, we will send the referral with a brief medical summary to Psychiatry UK who will process the referral and send you an appointment for an assessment in due course.

Wait time: Psychiatry UK temporarily paused new referrals, however this has now reopened. Please see their website for up to date wait times.

You will need to have completed and provided us with both the AQ50 form and the Right to Choose letter before we can begin to process an assessment referral. These can be downloaded from the Psychiatry UK website, and then either handed in at reception or sent to us via the form below.
