Urgent appointments

Patients seeking a same-day appointment or urgent help will receive a telephone call-back from an urgent care doctor or nurse. Following this assessment, a face-to-face appointment may be offered if necessary.

When making an appointment, the receptionist will ask for details about your issue to direct you to the appropriate clinician or service, with all information treated confidentially.

If you're already in contact with a clinician regarding your issue, it's best to wait for a routine appointment with them for better continuity of care. The urgent care clinician will review your reason for calling and advise if it can wait for a routine appointment.

How to book

  • Telephone: 0117 949 7774 - our phone lines are open from 8:30am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday.

Extended Access

We also have extended access available. See our Out of Hours information.

Book a routine appointment

Appointments can be booked from 3 days to 2 weeks in advance. We aim to offer patients their preferred clinician, but a practice nurse may be a quicker option for certain ailments. We also have clinical pharmacists for routine medication and hypertension reviews.

If scheduling a telephone appointment for a skin condition, please call reception beforehand to request a link to send a photo.

  2. Telephone: 0117 949 7774 - our phone lines are open from 8:30am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday.

Sickness certificates (fit notes)

You must give your employer a doctor's 'fit note' (sometimes called a 'sick note') if you've been ill for more than 7 days in a row and have taken sick leave. This includes non-working days, such as weekends and bank holidays.

Home visits

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.

If you need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10am.

Telephone: 0117 949 7774.

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible.

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Change or cancel an appointment

To cancel your appointment:

  2. Cancel using the GP online system
  3. Phone us on 0117 949 7774

Appointment FAQ

When are the appointments available?

We offer appointments from 08:30 in the morning, late evening appointments and a Saturday morning surgery. Please be aware that all patients will need to book an appointment.

Routine appointments can be booked in advance at any time, appointments needed for more urgent reasons are released three days ahead at 8:30am, and a phone call from our urgent-care clinicians can be arranged on the day.

Use the contact options above or see our GP Availability page

How long is an appointment?

All routine GP appointments are for 10 minutes. Practice nurse and pharmacist appointment times vary depending on the procedure or advice needed.

Can I talk to my GP or a nurse on the phone?

The surgery endeavours to provide daily telephone slots with GPs and nursing staff for routine, follow-up queries about existing problems.  The GP will call you back, and will leave a message if he/she cannot reach you on the provided number.  Please let us know if you do not want a message to be left.

What happens if I miss a call from the GP?

The GP will try to contact you twice on the number you provide and will leave a message if he/she cannot reach you.  Please let us know if you do not want a message to be left. Please endeavour to make yourself available and keep your line free to ensure you receive your call.  We may use mobile phone numbers so please be aware that you may not recognise the mobile number which appears on your phone.

Do you have a Language Interpreting Service?

Yes, we do. Please try to book a double appointment in advance in order to be able to use this. Sometimes it can be better than having a family member present to interpret as it allows a more private conversation between patient and GP.

Will you remind me about my appointment?

Yes, we send text reminders for appointments. You can now register to receive information by text message on your phone regarding appointments and health care.

If you wish to register for this messaging service, please fill out the consent form.

What happens if I can’t make my appointment?

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible so that this appointment can be offered to someone else. We lose a lot of appointments each week due to people not attending.

What if I need to be examined during my appointment?

You have the option of having an impartial observer (a chaperone) present during an examination.
